What I Learn’t At Golf Today!
Posted on September 22nd, 2007
Let me set the scene – hot day – friday – golf cart is packed with beer and ice …
Enjoy :)
* Par actually stands for “Parden” as in, Parden me while I take this shot again. (and it doesn’t count)
* A triple bogie means I get three extra shots but still count it as a Par.
* Know when it is just “close enough” to the hole and consider it a Par.
* Beer helps the ball stay straight.
* Ice helps the Beer.
* On the water hazard I learnt that golf balls sink but … beer cans float.
* If you don’t strap your bag onto the back of the golf cart … it will fall off while you are driving.
* You can’t actually loose a golf ball, while looking for it you will always find more. If you are a super excellent golfer you will always find many balls.
* Loosing beer is possible and is forbidden. You can’t just wonder off and find more beer, there aren’t magic puddles lying around. Strap down the beer.
* If you fill the back of the cart up with ice you will leave a trail around the course, this is fun and you can reduce your score by 1.
* There are lots of squirrels on golf courses.
* They like the ice.
* So its ok.
* A driver isn’t the name of a club, it is the person who takes you home afterwards.
* What you know as a driver is called a “Digger”. This “device” extracts a chunk of grass as you tee-off and atomizes it and then compresses the grass into your tee, splintering it into a thousand pieces while simultaneously driving the ball into the back of your friends head.
* The above is also known as a “Birdie” – that is what your friends sees for awhile.
* When you hit the ball into a crowd off people you are supposed to shout, “Fore!” …. I prefer “Lets Hide”.
* There are 18 holes on a typical course not 19 – which explains all the cars.
* An “Eagle” is what catches the squirrels.
* Eagles do not like ice.
* If you chase the squirrels they will run away.
* The eagles will not run away.
* They will fly away.
* I don’t like them very much.
* I discovered that the more your drink the more of an super excellent golfer you become.
* When I was finished I was the most super excellent golfer there.
* Blisters are what the golf club give you for free when you leave.

Can Satellite Survive?
Posted on September 22nd, 2007
I recently moved into a new house, I tried like crazy to make sure months in advance that all the services companies would arrive on the moving day so I could continue my services. Of course I was let down by non other than my satellite company.
So I started looking around for a alternative while I waited for the next install date to role around. I noticed that iTunes could supply almost everything I watch on TV and using the Apple TV device I could just about replace my satellite or if you have cable that system.
So my question is how can these companies survive. For cable the out is easy, they already have a great delivery mechanism for delivering IP based content directly the home and from the work I’ve done at Cox, they busy doing just that. (On Demand?) What about satellite companies like Dish and DirecTV? I have not seen any real effort in the on demand arena and to be honest they better hurry up. They should at least be providing content via my internet connection AND satellite.
If anyone works for one of the above companies maybe you have some inside info on plans?

Try GoVelvet
Posted on September 22nd, 2007
I’ve spent the better part of my free time over the last few years working on a pretty elaborate multi-tenant e-commerce system, called GoVelvet. That is also my small company’s name :) I like it.
My multi-tenant system runs entirely under a single website yet has complete data separation between clients and supports custom domains. At first glance the store system may seem very simple. What makes it advanced is the theming and module system that supports it. When you select a theme for your store not only can the layout, colors, fonts etc change but the entire functionality can change too. This make is extremely powerful and easy to maintain custom code across store fronts. I’ve included two default themes, one gives you a complete blogging system. I’m using virtual path providers so all the custom code etc is in the database, kinda cool!
The system is completely free to use – I’m letting anyone create a free store with 100 products – after that I might need to charge people but I’m not sure. If I can generate enough income from the donations and ads (which are only in the admin area) then it will remain totally free. Give it a try now!
