Microsoft’s latest: We’re good when you’re poor
Posted on March 29th, 2009
Have you seen Microsoft’s latest campaign? I call it, “We’re good when you’re poor”. It started with a speech by Balmer (twit?) about how Apple’s sales have fallen during the bad economy and that Microsoft sales were going up.
Wow, I couldn’t believe my ears. They’re actually touting that their OS is great now that the economy sucks rather than, we built something better. What is really sad is that Windows 7 is going to be great, really great – yet they decide instead to go out Apple bashing. A game they can only lose.
I’ve also seen posts on the Windows blog site along with TV commercials about finding a “Computer that fits your needs” but for under $1000 … duh – of course nobody can then pick a Mac and Microsoft make out as if this is a good comparison. Maybe for monkeys…. that is like giving someone $10k to buy a car and then saying, well they picked a Kia – must be better than a BMW.
*clap* *clap* ….

Oh come on Microsoft ….
Posted on July 31st, 2008
Anybody take a guess what application this is?
I hope you’re laughing, for anybody running Office 2007 – probably the most bug riddled release ever from MS. This is supposed to be my outlook. Besides suddenly and continuously prompting me to login to our freaking exchange server I get this window – maybe they can repackage this as Micro-Outlook for the iPhone maybe? ;)
At my office we’ve also noticed that all Vista and Office 2007 machines that have Visio installed get a nasty bug that crashes Visio every single time it exits even after a OLE sequence.
I hear bells in my head :)

Get into the Mesh
Posted on June 25th, 2008
If you’ve been hiding under some kind of rock, stone or generally heavy object you may have missed the tech preview of Live Mesh from Microsoft. A “Cloud” based system which allows you to add many devices to your mesh, synchronizing data between anything that needs your data.
A really neat feature is that a PC (and soon Mac) device in your mash can be remote controlled from any machine with a browser and Internet connection.
I’m using it to sync critical code data from several developer machines so that I can work on the code from anywhere. The sync is the best I’ve seen so far in terms of backing up files. Microsoft give you a generous 5 gigs for free. Hopefully when this goes live we’ll be able to buy some more space.
Files are all transferred using SSL so should be secure (“should”) :) – anyway, nobody can view your mesh unless you give them access to specific folders which is a nice feature for sharing docs with work colleagues.
Here is a web view of a mesh Desktop:
You can get into the preview by going to http://www.mesh.com/ – invites are going out pretty quickly at the moment. I waited about a day.
